On Thursday, May 27th a volcano erupted about 15
miles south of Guatemala city, killing several and displacing thousands.
On Friday and Saturday, a tropical storm moved into Guatemala causing
several more deaths and forcing at least 74,000 people to evacuate their
homes.
The GOD'S CHILD Project is known for
its efficiency and effectiveness in emergency situations in Central
America and is leading the way in relief efforts. Volunteers and staff
are literally pulling people out from the mud, helping with evacuations,
having food and clothing distributions, and helping with emergency
housing.
There are thousands of people without
homes. The poor of Guatemala need your help now more than ever. Please
donate to the GOD'S CHILD Project so that we can continue with aid for
those who need it most.

Second Volunteer Social a Success
The volunteer office held its second volunteer social event Saturday night at Cafe 2000 in Antigua. Volunteers from all over the world came together to belt out their favorite karaoke classics. Volunteer Coordinator Corinne Castro is excited that the social nights are turning into a monthly event, creating an atmosphere for international volunteers to mingle over their shared passions for volunteering, The GOD'S CHILD Project, and karaoke. Thanks to those who came out. The next social will be in early August; we hope to see you there.

Clothing Distribution in Xiparquy
Two service teams, totaling more than 40 volunteers, visited the rural villages of Xiparquy and Panimaquy to distribute donated clothing to over 300 mothers and children. The area was devastated by high winds during Tropical Storm Agatha. With high energy and enthusiasm, the volunteers helped person after person find clothes and blankets to keep them warm until their roofs can be repaired or replaced. A special thank you to the service teams from Lawrenceville High School in Princeton, NJ and Charity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND for their help with this successful clothing distribution.

Peace Boat visits Dreamer Center
The GOD’S CHILD Project is excited to welcome 30 visitors to The Dreamer Center today. The volunteers arrived aboard the Peace Boat, a nonprofit organization based in Japan. Peace Boat is focused on promoting peace, human rights, sustainable development and respect for the environment by raising awareness and encouraging social and political action at each port it visits. The boat creates a neutral and mobile space for it’s passengers to break down barriers and develop cooperative relationships and dialogs about larger social and political issues. This is the Peace Boat's second visit to The Dreamer Center. The visit will include a presentation from all medical, educational, legal, administrative and community development departments at The GOD’S CHILD Project’s Guatemalan locations, as well as a special exhibition by the children of The Dreamer Center School.
